Windy and dry conditions have returned to Southern California, raising the risk of new wildfires sparking as firefighters continue to battle two major blazes in the Los Angeles area that started in similar weather nearly two weeks ago.

Southern California experienced extreme fire weather on Tuesday, with wind speeds reaching up to 100 mph in the mountains. This triggered new wildfires, including the Lilac Fire in San Diego County, which grew to 80 acres,

A brush fire burning near a Rancho Bernardo intersection and close to several structures prompted a response from San Diego Fire-Rescue Department crews Wednesday.

According to San Diego Fire-Rescue, the department received the initial call around 8:55 a.m. The first unit of firefighters arrived shortly after 9 a.m., SDFD said on its website. As of 10:20 a.m., it is burning five-to-seven acres with a moderate rate of spread.

San Diego Fire-Rescue said the Center Fire at Camino Del Norte and Paseo Montanoso could potentially grow to 100 acres.
