JKNC leader Omar Abdullah on October 16 took oath as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. During the event, Surinder Choudhary took oath as Deputy Chief Minister.

Omar Abdullah sworn in as J&K Chief Minister, aims to bridge political divide, prioritizes people-friendly governance.

After the revocation of the special status granted under Article 370 in 2019 and the establishment of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as a federal unit, Omar Abdullah has taken the oath as the first chief minister.

Along with Omar Abdullah, Surinder Chowdhary was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of J&K while as Sakina Itoo, Satish Sharma, Javaid Dar, and Javaid Rana were also sworn in as the Cabinet Ministers.

Abdullah said that there should be no "stick-waving" or "aggressive gestures" by the police when he travels by road, calling for a more people-friendly approach.

The stage is set for Omar Abdullah to take oath as the first chief minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir following the victory of his National Conference in the maiden assembly election after the abrogation of Article 370.

Omar Abdullah took oath as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on October 16, alongside five ministers. This marks the first local government after six years of Central rule, with the National Conference securing a majority in the cabinet.

Omar Abdullah also asked the Jammu and Kashmir police to refrain from creating a green corridor for his movement.
