AYER - UMass Memorial Health said Wednesday it will build a standalone emergency department in central Massachusetts in the wake of Nashoba Valley Medical Center's closure. The Ayer hospital closed last summer as a result of the Steward Health Care crisis.

Poor maintenance and testing, insufficient staffing and inadequate training may have contributed to Richmond’s six-day water crisis, according to a notice of alleged violation from the Virginia Department of Health.

The city says the notice is "necessary and planned part of working with VDH" on a plan after the water crisis earlier this month.

Following the Richmond area water crisis, the City of Richmond has announced that the Virginia Department of Health will issue a Notice of Alleged Violation for the city's water treatment.
