The Columbus Blue Jackets' home opener Tuesday was much like the first holiday without a loved one. The rituals were all familiar, the traditions locked in over more than two decades of NHL hockey at Nationwide Arena.

Johnny Gaudreau's family watched in tears as the Columbus Blue Jackets raised a banner to memorialize their star player on Tuesday, Oct. 16 after he and his younger brother Matthew Gaudreau were killed by an alleged drunk driver in August while riding bikes the night before their sister's wedding.

After hoisting Johnny Gaudreau's '13' to the rafters, the Blue Jackets pushed the NHL's defending champs to the final horn.
