Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg's son Prince Guillaume will be installed as Lieutenant-Representative on Oct. 8. All about the step in a change of reign.

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg on Tuesday appointed his son, Crown Prince Guillaume, as "lieutenant-représentant," or regent, thus initiating the transfer of duties and ultimately his succession to the role of head of state.

According to the Grand Ducal Court, the appointment of lieutenant representative traditionally happens as part of the transfer of power, with the position compared to that of a royal regent. The new position for Guillaume will allow him to take on certain responsibilities of the Grand Duke,
