DETROIT -- Joel Blomqvist made 29 saves in his NHL debut, and Evgeni Malkin got his 800th assist to help the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 6-3 victory against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday. Anthony Beauvillier scored twice for the Penguins (1-1-0), who were coming off a 6-0 loss to the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

They chased Ville Husso, and made a mockery of the Wings' commitment to puck management. It was only one game, and it's a long season, but the 6-3 loss should rankle the Wings after all their focus during exhibition season on playing better team defense.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will face the Detroit Red Wings on October 10, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. EDT. The game will take place at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit with both teams looking to start the season strong.
