Following Week 1 last season, the Los Angeles Rams traded Akers to Minnesota for a late-round pick. In six games as the Vikings; No. 2 runner, he rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries before suffering a season-ending Achille tear in early November.

For the second year in a row, the Vikings are bringing in running back Cam Akers as a midseason addition. They acquired Akers in a trade with the Texans, on condition of him passing a physical exam, adding depth to their backfield in a low-cost move.

The Vikings have now traded for Akers for the second season in a row after trading a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for the 25-year-old running back and a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick on Tuesday.
