Hurricane Milton’s 100-mph-plus wind gusts inside its powerful eyewall Wednesday evening was no match for Sarasota’s airport, which suffered severe damage.

The Melbourne Orlando Airport suffered damages after Hurricane Milton slammed into the state as a Category 3 storm on Wednesday. Officials said the roof of the airport partially collapsed in the atrium area located in their terminal.

Florida travelers will likely face delays and cancellations this week from Hurricane Milton, just two weeks after disruption from Hurricane Helene. Flights and cruise ships already are being affected by the hurricane, which is heading to Florida’s Gulf Coast and forecast to make landfall on Wednesday.
