Nebraska volleyball overcomes a rough second set and a meltdown in the third to escape with the win over the Boilermakers.

No. 10 Purdue took the match down to the wire, but No. 2 Nebraska volleyball held off the upset-minded Boilermakers, winning the final three points and the match.

The No. 2 Huskers defeated the No. 10 Purdue 25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 25-22, 17-15 at the Bob Devaney Center. The match was close from start to finish, with several lead changes. The Boilermakers outhit the Huskers .311% to .242%, but their 19 services errors cost them.

The No. 2 Huskers head into the third week of conference play undefeated and takes on its fifth top-10 ranked team of the season in one of the premier matchups of the week in college volleyball.

In a slugfest between two Top 10 teams that lasted three hours, Merritt Beason and Nebraska landed the last blow, improving to 15-1.

Nebraska's home win streak stays intact, extending to 35 games — the longest in the nation. Purdue falls to 0-7 in its past seven matches in Lincoln, with the Boilermaker's last road win against the Cornhuskers coming in 2013.

• Nebraska is 24-8 all-time against Purdue and has won five in a row in the series. The teams went five sets in the only meeting last season on Sept. 29 in West Lafayette, with Nebraska squeaking out a 15-12 victory in the fifth set.

There is no such thing as a “regular” schedule in college volleyball anymore but it sure feels familiar to have a Friday and Saturday night match this weekend. Friday Nebraska faces Purdue, and Saturday it is Rutgers.
