Kolkata: The convict in the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case, Sanjay Roy, is likely to work as a gardener initially in Presidency Correctional Home where he is lodged, an official said on Wednesday.

Roy is now allowed to walk and exercise inside his jail cell. He can also leave it as long as he remains in the cell block under the watchful eyes of special guards.

The trail court had sought death penalty for Sanjay Roy but was turned down by the trail court, where Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das said that the crime did not fall under the ‘rarest of the rare’ category.

The CBI is likely to file the appeal against the Sealdah court order by Friday with detailed arguments in favour of capital punishment, they said.
