A man in his 20s has died after a crash on the M20 in Kent – the seventh fatality on England’s road in less than 24 hours. The M20 remains closed after the fatal crash involving three cars which killed the driver of a blue Smart car. It happened at about 6.15am today on the coastbound carriageway near junction 1.

A man died in a crash on a motorway slip road on Wednesday morning, police have said. At 06:15 BST a Smart car was involved in a collision with another car near junction one of the coastbound M20. The Smart car was then involved in a further collision with another car on the slip road from the M25, joining the M20.

Diversion details have been confirmed as a busy stretch of the M20 has been blocked this morning (Wednesday, October 16) following a ‘serious’ crash. Emergency services are currently at the scene on the coastbound carriageway between Junction 1 for the M25 and Junction 6 for the M26.

Travellers face delays across UK motorways today after two serious crashes have shut stretches of the M61 and M20. The M61 in Lancashire is closed southbound between junctions 6 and 8 after a collision close to the Rivington services just after midnight.

Motorists have been urged to “avoid the area” after a “serious” three-car crash on the M20 in Kent. All traffic has stopped both ways on the M20 near Swanley Interchange since around 6am today (October 16).
